As the son of a naval officer, Mike moved around the country as a boy, soaking up the flavors of New Orleans jazz, Virginia folk, and east coast alternative rock. After receiving his Bachelors Degree in Music from Morehouse College, Mike began his live performance career on trombone in the popular Ohio nine-piece rock band, Jackie-O, while he was working toward his Masters in Music Performance at Bowling Green State University. In 1998, Mike left for Denton to pursue his doctorate in music at the University of North Texas. He soon felt the need to move in new directions and spread his musical horizons. So he began to explore the guitar and discovered a knack for creating daring melodies and astute lyrics that seem to relate to all of us. Mike soon recorded his debut EP and began performing solo in the DFW area. Mike's catalog of original material continues to grow and impress audiences and critics alike. His passion for music is evident on stage. Audiences are impressed with Mike's dexterity on acoustic guitar and the magnetic quality of his mellow, earthy voice. But perhaps his songwriting is most remarkable. Listeners are able to identify with Mike's moody odysseys through love and loss and search for self.
